Your first GTA 6 stream: the checklist
Preload on 12 November, release on 19 November 2026. Between the two, you have a week to get everything working before the busiest stream night of the year. Here is the list we would tick, in order.
Updated November 2, 2026
1.This week: the hardware
- Update OBS Studio or Streamlabs Desktop now, not on launch night.
- Update the firmware of your capture card and check it shows the console picture.
- Do a 30 minute test with another game on the same console, recorded locally, and watch it back.
- Run a speed test at the hour you will stream: our stream settings guide gives the bitrate to aim for.
- Mic, webcam and lighting: same position as on the night.
2.12 November: the preload
If you pre-ordered the digital version, the preload opens on 12 November on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. You download the game, you cannot play it before the 19th. Check the free space: the download size shows on the store page, keep room for the day one patch.
Leave the console in rest mode connected to the internet so the patch downloads on its own. PS5: Settings, System, Power Saving, Features Available in Rest Mode, Stay Connected to the Internet. Xbox: Settings, General, Power options, Sleep. With a disc, the install and the patch happen the day you get it: plan for that time.
3.Your OBS scenes
Four scenes are enough for a first stream, in the same style so it feels like one show:
- Starting soon, with a 5 to 10 minute countdown.
- Gameplay: console, webcam, alerts, chat.
- Be right back.
- Ending, with your next stream date.
4.Overlay and alerts
Keep the webcam away from the minimap (bottom left in the trailers) and from the centre of the screen. Check that your text is readable on a phone, half of your viewers will watch there. Test each alert with the test button of your service: the Twitch alerts guide has the steps.
If you do not want to design all this yourself, our GTA 6 packs bring overlays, alerts and scene screens depending on the pack, ready for OBS and Streamlabs. They are unofficial, with no Rockstar logo.
5.The sound
- On the mic, add the Noise Suppression, Compressor and Limiter filters in OBS.
- Aim for voice peaks around -10 dB in the mixer, and the game clearly lower, around -20 dB, when you talk.
- Alerts above the game, under your voice.
- Headphones on, so the game does not come back through your mic.
- Record two minutes of driving with the radio on while you talk, and listen back. For the licensed music, see the Rockstar rules guide.
6.Title, category and spoilers
Start the title with GTA 6, then what makes your stream different: first playthrough, blind, full story. Pick the game category on Twitch and turn on the label for mature-rated games. Put the stream in your Twitch schedule and pin a post on your socials a few days before.
Decide your spoiler rule now: no story spoilers in chat, a mod who enforces it, and the word spoiler in the title if you plan to go far.
7.Release day, hour by hour
The exact unlock time depends on Rockstar and on the stores: check it on the game page the day before.
- One hour before: console on, game up to date, OBS open, scenes checked.
- 30 minutes before: one minute local recording, then watch it.
- 10 minutes before: Starting soon scene, post on your socials.
- Live: a break every two hours, water within reach.
- After: keep the VOD, cut your best clips the next day.
8.Everything else
The countdown, the other guides and the free GTA VI text generator for your titles are in the GTA 6 section.
