Set Up an OBS Studio Overlay for Your Streams

Setting up an overlay in OBS Studio can look intimidating at first, but with clear instructions it's easy. Here is a complete guide to get your OBS Studio overlay configured properly.

1. Get your overlay files ready

Before you start, make sure your overlay files are in WEBM / PNG format so the background stays transparent. Put them on your desktop so you can grab them quickly during setup.

2. Create your scenes in OBS Studio

The first step is to create the scenes that will hold your graphics. Start with the starting scene of your stream and rename it so it's easy to find. Then add your media sources, such as background images or videos, following the instructions provided.

3. Set up the other scenes

Besides the starting scene, you'll also need scenes for breaks, for the end of the stream and for just chatting. Follow the instructions to create them by duplicating the starting scene and adding the elements you need.

4. Add more sources

To make your overlay more dynamic, you can add extra sources such as game capture, display capture, webcam and text. Follow the steps provided to add these sources and adjust them to your needs.

5. Add your Twitch chat

To show your Twitch chat in your overlay, you'll need a Streamlabs account. Follow the instructions to copy the chat widget URL and add it as a browser source in OBS Studio.

6. Finish the setup

Once all your scenes and sources are set up, you're ready to stream with your new OBS Studio overlay. Test every feature to make sure it all works before you go live.

Follow these steps and you'll have a custom, professional OBS Studio overlay for your live streams. If you need more help, feel free to reach out to the design team at nano-crea.com
